Rockin' My Life Away

简介: by Stephen Thomas ErlewineAs the title says, George Thorogood has been rockin' his life away, churning out a series of heavy blues-rock records, all of them stylistically identical to each other. Rockin' My Life Away is no exception to the rule, and while it is marginally better than the tepid Haircut, it sounds so damned similar to all of his other records that even fans have to wonder what the point is anymore. There are some differences, most notably that the selection of material is more interesting than before -- out of the ten covers, there are songs by John Hiatt ("The Usual"), Jerry Lee Lewis, Frank Zappa and Chuck Willis -- and while he's losing energy as he ages, it actually adds some subtlety to his music. Still, if Rockin' My Life Away is anything, it's bloozy boogie and it's predictable, and for longtime fans, the lack of spark may cancel out the strength of the material.
