Richard "Groove" Holmes was one of the first jazz organists to emerge after the rise of Jimmy Smith(who would remain a lifelong influence). Holmes had a lighter tone on the more up-tempo pieces, but on the ballads (such as "Denise" on this set) his organ could give the impression of weighing a ton.
