Here We Go, Baby, originally released in 1957, shows that Yarborough was ahead of the game in terms of combining pop and folk music. Produced by the Weavers' Fred Hellerman and featuring Josh White and future Weaver and Rooftop Singer Erik Darling, Here We Go, Baby is steeped in folk credibility but makes use of a vocal chorus and other pop flourishes. The title track was a hit in the Chicago area, but the album was otherwise an underachiever in the sales department. Yarborough would have to wait a few more years before enjoying his commercial breakthrough, but Here We Go, Baby is an entertaining and fascinating artifact from the pre-dawn of the folk boom.
