By Jason Birchmeier The flaws that kept Motor Booty Affair from being in the same league as Mothership Connection -- that league being near perfection, from beginning to end -- became alarmingly more prevalent on Gloryhallastoopid. By the time this album was put together in 1979, the classic P-Funk lineup of Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley, and Maceo Parker had splintered, and when Clinton did manage to get them into the studio, it was never as a unit. This suddenly revolving lineup of second-rate studio musicians in place of a cohesive band plagues this album more than a lack of enthusiasm on Clinton's part or half-hearted songwriting, though those two problems do play a role in this album's failure. Besides "Big Bang Theory" and "Theme From the Black Hole," nothing here is even remotely labored.
