The new lineup featured guitarist Lloyd Smith, drummer Michael Beard, vocalist John Colbert, trumpeter Charles Allen, saxophonist Havery Henderson, and others. This was classic Southern funk, with gospel-tinged vocals, energetic horn tracks, and lyrics that ranged from downhome musings to urban admonitions.
