Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac

简介: Although trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie was in his prime in the mid-'60s, this CD (which is a straight reissue of an Impulse! LP) is a disappointment. Gillespie mostly jokes around on "Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac" (a routine he did better in the early '50s), the brief "Bye" is a waste, and Dizzy makes the mistake of singing the forgettable "Something in Your Smile" (from Dr. Doolittle). Although the trumpeter has decent solos on the Brazilian "Mas Que Nada" and his lengthy "Kush," and Dizzy's interplay with the audience is sometimes humorous, this recording with his quintet (which includes pianist.
