简介: Stephen Thomas ErlewineWith her first solo album, Diana Ross proved that she could thrive withoutthe Supremes. Once that matter was decided, she settled into a comfortable pattern of releasing uneven but enjoyable records that didn't stretch her talent too far. There were exceptions, such as the sublimeLady Sings the Blues, but her second album Everything is Everything pretty much set the pace for the remainder of her solo career. It had a handful of good songs, several covers, and many average tunes from professional songsmiths, all given a contemporary production that inevitably sounds dated several years after the initial release. Since Ross has a great voice and undeniable charisma, the album is entertaining, but very few songs are memorable once the record is completed. Still, the moments where it does work are enjoyable and may be enough to make the album worthwhile, depending on whether you view the glass as half empty or half filled.
