简介: 海顿:钢琴三重奏全集 "When the Beaux Arts' cycle of trios was finally completed it received almost universal accolades, including Gramophone's 1979 Record of the Year award. Their playing throughout is indeed distinguished: vital, refined and sharply responsive to the music's teeming richness and variety.... Six of the nine discs here contain well over an hour of glorious, enriching music, much of the playing is extraordinarily felicitous, and the recording has Philips's customary warmth and refinement... This is a set that should last a lifetime."       – Gramophone       "It is not often possible to hail one set of records as a 'classic' yet this set can be described in those terms, for the playing of the Beaux Arts Trio is of the very highest musical distinction... This is a set no Haydn lover should miss: It is desert Island music."       – Penguin Guide       Haydn's piano trios deserve far more attention than they receive. As music lovers know, they are every bit as rewarding as his symphonies and string quartets, and also very numerous. They are not, however, true trios as we understand the term now. Essentially, Haydn took the sonata for violin and piano and added a cello part to strengthen the weak bass of contemporary pianos. This doesn't inhibit the quality of the music in any way, but it has prevented modern piano trios from taking them up since the cellist usually wants something more exciting to do. All praise, then, to the Beaux Arts Trio for understanding that musical quality is more important than instrumental display. --David Hurwitz       The first and only recording made of the entire piano trios, performed by the legendary Beaux Arts Trio together with a complete text on the works. Again, deemed one of the 100 greatest recordings of all time by the editor of Gramophone ! More than 10 1/2 hrs. of music on 9 CDs.
