ValdiviaThe cover of El Satanico Dr. Cadillac shows one of the Fabulosos Cadillacs wearing a Mercedes-Benz logo around his neck à la Mike D, which serves as an indication that the Cadillacs are now incorporating hip-hop into their trademark mixture of ska and salsa. "El Mensaje Soy Yo" uses Public Enemy and Beastie Boys samples and sounds like a Def Jam track circa 1987. "El Golpe de Tu Corazon" is unmistakably patterned after LL Cool J's classic ballad "I Need Love." There is also a heavy dose of new wave in "Contrabando De Tu Amor" and "Verano Salvaje," as well as a cover of the Specials' "A Message to You Rudy." The Cadillacs are still not quite more than the sum of their influences (except on the standout title track), but they are developing a distinctive style that would flourish on later releases.
