Frankie Laine recorded bucketfuls of songs-on-a-theme LPs during the late '50s and early '60s, but it's clear few meant more to him than You Are My Love. The cover model he's embracing on the cover is actually his longtime wife, actress Nan Grey, which brings a special weight and emotional honesty to nearly every inclusion: the title song, "I Married an Angel," "To My Wife," "Side by Side," and "Second Honeymoon." As much feeling as Laine conveys, though, there's not much of an artistic statement involved in many of these songs, and the arrangements range from conservative to downright bland. One exception to the samey sound is "Try a Little Tenderness," an inspired choice.
