Danna's haunting melodies capture the horrors and frustrations of war in vividly bleak detail, with undercurrents of melancholy affecting even the most luminous themes, like "Even as Love." Varese Sarabande's CD release also includes poems read by actors portraying the film's real-life subjects Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon (a bonus) as well as source music (a minus that adds next to nothing to the proceedings).
