Nome is an unconventional and interesting album, on which Arnaldo Antunes demonstrates that creating "alternative" or "experimental" music doesn't necessarily means copying the Velvet Underground or showing off endless soundscapes of feedback, distortion, and atonal guitar runs. On the contrary, Nome is melodic and rhythmic, and the songs have rich and inventive lyrics. Just as on several other albums, Antunes collaborates with Marisa Monte, who lends her voice to "Cultura," "Carnaval," "Direitinho," and "Alta Noite." Other well-known artists contributing to this album are Arto Lindsay and Pericles Cavalcanti. The sound is generally quite sparse, but there are also elegant sound effects, and the moods vary much between the different tracks. Nome was the first album released by Arnaldo Antunes as a solo artist, and it immediately consolidated him as one of the most interesting artists in Brazil.
