简介: by Evan C. GutierrezA continuation of her new sparse, electronically driven direction, La Fuerza del Destino continues Fey's sonic journey toward the euro, separating her a little more from her Mexicano countrymen with every spacey, dark little dance track. Though there are remembrances of her sugar-pop heritage, her first release with EMI International is a touch more mature than previous work. Well, the production style seems to be seeking deeper waters. Fey herself still sounds quite a bit like a dangerously sexually precocious teenager. Now, dance-pop has never been a style to demand vocal range and depth of timbre from its heroines. In keeping with the lax standards of the genre, there are times on Fuerza del Destino that Fey's voice is as thin and pinched as her cute button nose. Ignacio Cano, of Spanish techno-pop group Mecano, penned all of the material on the record, with the exception of a cover of Mecano's 1981 hit "Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar," which he wrote along with his brother, José María Cano. With a veteran like Nacho Cano in her corner, it's no surprise that Fey reached Billboard's Top Ten on the Latin pop chart. All sophomoric cuteness aside, Fey has lasted through the few-hits-wonder phase and demonstrated genuine staying power.
