简介: To celebrate the release of Imagine—The Ultimate Collection, the GRAMMY Museum is thrilled to host a special pre-release listening experience and discussion of the incredible new box set that explores the making of John Lennon’s classic 1971 album, Imagine. Spread across four CDs and two Blu-Ray audio discs containing high definition 5.1 surround sound and stereo mixes, this historical collection is fully authorized by Yoko Ono Lennon, who oversaw the production and creative direction of this project, and is a truly unique expanded edition that offers a variety of listening experiences that are at once immersive and intimate. Produced by Yoko Ono and mixed and engineered by triple GRAMMY? Award-winner Paul Hicks, the ‘Ultimate Mixes’ of Imagine contain the songs from the album plus singles, extra tracks and another disc worth of outtakes. Originating from brand new high-definition transfers of the original first-generation multitrack recordings, the ‘Ultimate Mixes’ have all been faithfully remixed from the ground up, to reveal whole new levels of sonic depth, definition and clarity, and are especially vivid in 5.1 surround sound. The Raw Studio Mixes, mixed by Rob Stevens, capture the exact moment John and the Plastic Ono Band recorded each song, raw and live, just as you would have heard if you were in Ascot Sound Studios in John & Yoko’s home in Tittenhurst in 1971. The tracks are devoid of effects and John’s vocals are completely unadorned. The 5.1 versions place you in the exact center of the studio with the musicians all around you - a truly unique listening experience where you are literally ‘in the room’ with John & Yoko and The Plastic Ono Band. The Elements Mixes, also mixed by Hicks, are a more ambient collection, bringing detailing to elements from the original mutitracks like the string arrangements, isolated vocals and more by creating a wider sound stage for them to be enjoyed. The collection also includes interviews with John & Yoko by longtime family friend Elliot Mintz. The set is rounded out with the Evolution Mixes, a unique track-by-track audio montage, edited and mixed by Sam Gannon, that details the journey of each song from demo to master recording via instructions, rehearsals, recordings, multitrack exploration and studio chatter. Coinciding with the release, and what would have been John Lennon’s 78th birthday, this timeless and important album is also being celebrated and explored in several films and a new book. Personally compiled and curated by Yoko, “Imagine John Yoko,” tells the definitive inside story in revelatory detail of the making of Imagine and all that surrounded it: the locations, the creative team, the artworks, and the films, in the words of John & Yoko and the people who were there. The original 1971 “Imagine” movie, directed by John & Yoko, was a groundbreaking film in the history of music video and rock cinema. Its counterpart, the GRAMMY? Award-winning documentary “Gimme Some Truth,” directed and produced by Andrew Solt and edited from footage directed by John & Yoko, chronicles the creative process of how the Imagine album came into being. Under the supervision of Yoko, these two films have been completely reassembled from the original 16 mm negative reels to HD and cleaned and digitally restored frame-by-frame. The “Imagine' soundtrack has been completely remixed in glorious 5.1 surround sound by Paul Hicks, and the “Gimme Some Truth” soundtrack, mixed by Pete Cobbin in 5.1, has been remastered. Collected together for the first time on DVD and Blu-ray, the films include exclusive, never-before-seen content also mixed in 5.1. Please join us for a special discussion of this iconic album, moderated by GRAMMY? Museum Artistic Director Scott Goldman.
