简介: No one has been able to miss the Swedish AOR-monster Houston. Firstly, I have praised them, but I’m hardly alone in this hype. The band’s debut album was unbelievably good, and the reviews of the debut album was great. The band has also taken Europe by storm. Acclaimed gigs in Sweden and the United Kingdom has lined up.
Now it’s time for the next release from Houston titled Relaunch , but it is unfortunately not a real sequel to the debut album. Relaunch is to a large degree a cover album, but fear not because it’s good! The opening track Runaway is a classic AOR-gem from Dakota. I almost appreciate this more than the original. Two of the others songs, Carrie (Michael Bolton) and Brief Encounter (Airrace) is two, in my opinion, great songs that Houston is doing very well interpretations of. Hank Erix voice fits like a glove on the classic Airrace song.
Legendary Mark Mangold guests on Do not You Know What Love Is (Touch) which is a song that I unfortunately do not really grasp as well as the other songs. Could be because it does not quite match the standard I know that the band possesses.
However, what makes me happier is the new song Without Your Love which Hank Erix and Elize Ryd do a duet. The song makes me feel like a tough guy who drives a car on the serpentine roads and with sunglasses on my head. I can really imagine turning up the volume when I am driving a car during a night in the north when the midnight sun shines in my eyes. The last two songs on this mini album is acoustic versions of Truth Slips and 1000 Songs and I think damn well that Truth Slips could become a classic ballad if they get backup from the company and the radio. Hank’s voice is vulnerable and beautiful. I wish, nay demands, that this song played live when I see Houston live next time!
All in all, this is truly an album worth buying. Not as good as his debut, but certainly close. Relaunch will be on my list of best albums lip 2011! Is there any objection I have, it is that the disc is too short and there is only one totaly new song. I sure hope for some more next year.
