简介: Echoes Live at Catalina Jazz Club is a musical mixture extending from where my international adventures began as a young jazz artist with grand performances alongside wonderful talents to the mature woman I have been fortunate to become. My repertoire has always been about love, reflections of life and world peace. Almost half of these songs have been among the staples of my performances for three decades - I Thought About You, No Moon at All, All the Things You Are, I Got Rhythm, The Look of Love and Afro Blue. The interesting fact is that I did not write any of them. As an interpreter of beautiful music I connected with the messages at different points in my life and they stuck with me. Leon Thomas’ Echoes composition reflects inspiration from my mentor and recording partner of two earlier albums. As part of my ongoing interactive explorations with the drum, I included my own songs African Echo and Echo Thoughts. All songs enjoy new treatments, including Greg Carter’s Nothing Else But You – my signature song – with The Nearness of You completing the album. Echoes Live at Catalina Jazz Club combines live performances within the context of my improvisations on classics and originals in an humble, love-life biography. Performed on February 12, 2013, this CD includes a lively evening of vocal music with spiritually motivated jazz vocal echoes at the wonderful Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles! From standards to Leon Thomas’ Echoes, with rare interactive displays of avant-garde, Jeri improvises with her band keeping the spirit of vocal jazz alive! About the Echoes Live at Catalina Jazz Club Project: Montreal is cold in the winter. I was up for a dramatic weather change in pursuing this music project. Among the last times I remembered being at the Catalina Jazz Club was with my record producer Jim West of Justin Time Records when Freddie Hubbard was performing - perhaps one of his last performances. It was spectacular. There I was in L.A. at the time recording with the great Jimmy Rowles at Capitol Records for my album A Timeless Place, complete with Jimmy’s compositions and his exquisite piano playing. Having frequented Catalina’s through the years I always thought it would be great to do a recording project there. Finally, taking the time to delve into a self-produced project for Jongleur Productions and with Joseph Zawinul’s talented son Ivan as the recording engineer, we created this project. The group ultimately included Woody Woods (piano), Trevor Ware (bass), Clayton Cameron (drums) and guest vocalist Mon David.
