简介: I have always loved to look at the stars. I sometimes pretended I was Galileo, but I didn’t know anything about him. Reading David Wootton’s inspiring book “Galileo: Watcher of the Skies” showed me Galileo and his methods, theories, colleagues and times; which for me turned into music! I began to read more about Aristotle, Copernicus and Newton and began to understand the lineage of minds that are continuing to take us on our journey to understanding the Cosmos.
The titles of the music and short descriptions are:
1 Galileo's Telescope
From the murky depths of inspiration an idea is born
Endless experimentation leads to a theory – maybe an answer
The dark forces of the Inquisition and fear of anything new
The stars hold the answer!
2 Aristotle's Eternal Mechanical Universe
The heavens are composed of 55 concentric, crystalline spheres to which the celestial bodies are attached with the Earth at the center.
3 Copernicus' Rotating Circling Universe
The Sun is the center of the Solar System. The Earth rotates every 24 hours. The earth is simply another heavenly body circling the sun. In his time, you could be burned to death for such thoughts!
4 Newton's Gravity Rotates the Universe
The Three Laws of Motion explain the power of gravity which goes higher than the apple tree! It is the power to move the Universe.
5 A Starry Messenger
“Sidereus Nuncius” (Galileo’s book “A Starry Messenger”) announces his discovery of the 4 moons of Jupiter
“Medicea Siderea” (Galileo calls them “The Medici Stars”)
“Ganymede, Callisto, Io, Europa” (4 moons of Jupiter)
“Galileo Galilei”
Galileo said, "I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night." By this I think he meant, besides fear of the night and the unknown, fear of the forces of ignorance and those people afraid to learn about the magnificence of our universe, which he had to fight with every one of his discoveries.
Peter Davison composes music scores for Indie Features, the History Channel, A+E, Biography, PBS, Warner Bros., Disney, Universal, Discovery, Gaiam (Yoga/Relaxation music) and others. Over 25 CDs of his music are on EMI/Higher Octave, Gaiam, Davisounds and TSR/Baja.
His instrumental "Sip of Wine" (from his CD "Future, Present, Past") received the Best Song of the Year Award, Hollywood Music in Media Awards, (New Age/Ambient), 2010.
“Fern Valley” and “Mount Tahquitz” from his CD “Forest Home” and "Possibility" (from his CD "Possibility") have also received nominations. Peter’s score for the PBS Series “The Endless Voyage” was nominated for the “Best Score of the Year, TV Show.”
