简介: Travis 'CALiPH' Gairy (pronounced cal-leaf) is a Canadian rapper/singer/songwriter from the Greater Toronto Area. Equally capable singing or rapping, CALiPH's clever lyricism and insightful subject matter encompasses a variety of themes drawn from his life. At the tender age of 13, influenced by artists such as Nas, Common, Jay-Z, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, etc. CALiPH humbly began writing and recording his own music in a 4’ x 4’ soundproofed closet in a grungy basement. Soon after his graduation from George Brown College in 2008, CALiPH’s love and dedication to his music had only grown stronger, and he felt that he had to pursue this relentless passion of his. In the winter of 2008, armed with a number of songs, he teamed up with current manager Chris Kukurudza, to produce and release his first full-length mixtape “Music & Me”. The success of this first project was enough to receive recognition from local newspapers, develop new contacts, and to perform multiple shows, one of which reached 400 spectators. After experiencing some success with his first mixtape, CALiPHs drive and ambition intensified. He immediately began working on his debut album “The Resignation”. His first single “Dedicated” was re leased in fall of 2010 and generated a wave of interest. It was added to rotations on several radio stations one of which included Toronto’s "Flow 93.5". It also generated interest online and was picked up and promoted on known Canadian blogs such as HipHopCanada.com, CityOnMyBack.com, TheRealFrequency.com, etc. This single won a spot on the 2011 Stylus Awards “Who's Got Next” mixtape which was distributed nation wide. It won him the “Best Hip Hop Award” at the Barrie New Music Festival and landed him a closing performance on Rogers Television's “Friday Night Live”. CALiPH also recently recieved an OAC song writing grant. "The Resignation" includes production from Toronto's Rich Kidd ( Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Shad), Australian producer MPhazes (Talib Kweli, Pharoah
Monch, Masta Ace), Ottawa’s OB Keys and a vocal feature from two time Juno nominee DL Incognito.
