简介: The Original Dixieland Jass Band (ODJB) was founded in 1916 - and they were the first ever recorded jass band for both Columbia and Victor Records in 1917. They changed their name to include Jazz in 1918 and forever locked the word as a musical definition from that point forward. The ODJB outsold the first million record seller, Enrico Caruso, in 1917 selling the first million jass/jazz recordings. Their music was so bold and new that bands changed their instrumentation and sound to emulate them. No other band came close to their sound or 78 Album sales until 1922 when King Oliver and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings (NORK) hit the music scene. The ODJB held their successful title selling millions of 78's worldwide from 1917 until 1922/23 ... for a full five to six years!!! No other band of any music genre in the history of recorded music has ever done this since! The ODJB was bigger than the Beatles (pop/rock band) and more popular than any current band during their spotlight in music history.
Jimmy LaRocca, the son of Nick LaRocca, leads the current band. Jimmy writes original music in the same style of early Dixieland jazz and performs on trumpet and sings. He brings the same style of fire and energy to stage that the first, original band performed with.
The ODJB continues to perform worldwide for jazz festivals and private functions today. It is amazing to see how many standing ovations this band receives from everyone - younger to older generations. This music is fun and entertaining even today.
