Kenny Kane is new to mainstream hip-hop, but he is a legend on the South Carolina music scene. In fact, Kane is an underground vet whose lyrics tell the story of someone who has paid his dues both in and out of the recording booth. 　　 　　“My n--- I done sold soap/to get me some coke and sold that to get a coat/and wore that to sell some more soap, to get me some more coke/and now I’m tryna whip me up a boat” – I Do This 　　 　　Raised in Timmonsville, South Carolina, Kane developed a love for music as child. The future rapper was inspired by a movie performance of legendary soul singer James Brown. He was later influenced by the cool persona of rock star Lenny Kravitz and rugged vocal styling of hard-core rapper DMX. 　　 　　Before he could fulfill his music dreams, Kane fell under the influence of another powerful force: the streets. The rapper spent most of his youth in and out of juvenile hall, and later did a stint in prison. While many of Kane’s peers succumbed to street life, he turned his negative circumstances into a positive future career. He began battle rapping while incarcerated at the Lee County Correctional facility. 　　 　　The experience helped Kane develop his musical style, which he describes as being "my and every hood guy's life sound track." After being released from prison, Kane teamed with South Carolina music legend DJ B-Lord and Pure Pain Entertainment and released his first CD, "Dirty Roads," in 2003. The 18-track album featured no singles but was played in heavy rotation due to its street sales and internet popularity. His second CD, “Blood in the Water," was released in 2006. In between albums, Kane began to make a name for himself on the southern mixtape circuit. He has been featured on more than 20 mixtapes, including Canyon Banyon's "Shooting the Breeze" and DJ Chuck T's "Down South Slangin." 　　 　　Performing on so many mixtapes helped Kane sharpen his skills as a professional rapper. After releasing his own series of mixtapes, including “Pure Kane” and “The 1,” Kane has begun to view his mixtapes as street albums where each song contains original concepts and lyrics. 　　 　　The mixtape circuit also prepared Kane for his latest project, "Trap Therapy vol.1." The rapper's favorite song from the 24-track album is "I do this". The song, produced by Columbia-based producer Lil Brod, is about Kane's love of hip-hop and why he feels compelled to rap. Currently, Kane is working on the Karolina Outlawz project with DJ B-Lord. 　　 　　Kane feels that music is a gift and believes that it will continue to take him to other places physically, mentally, and spiritually in the future, just like it did in his past.
