简介: "Too Lonesome to Cry" - taking its name from Utah Phillips' classic "Rock Salt and Nails" - features 12 rockabilly-pop tunes detailing the struggles of love, loss and despair. Like Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith before her, Lavonne McRoberts' lyrics and vocal style moan classic blues tales, calling back to her inspirations Janis Joplin and Wanda Jackson, for whom the band opened in 2012.
McRoberts and her band - drummer Joe McGuire, bassist Jacob Doll and guitarist Dylan Boyle - combine classic blues and rockabilly progressions with a contemporary pop sound to form a fresh take on vintage rock.
Peace, Love and Stuff, based in Des Moines, Iowa, originally formed in Ames, Iowa in 2009 as a backing band for McRoberts' solo acoustic project. Over the last five years, Peace, Love and Stuff has played throughout Iowa and released two EPs. The band's 2014 debut album "Too Lonesome to Cry" was recorded and produced by Jon Locker at The Sonic Factory in Des Moines and mastered at Sage Audio in Nashville.
The band's distinct style of coupling classic chord progressions with a contemporary pop feel has been praised as a "polished, high-energy act that’s a comfortable fit in a wide variety of lineups" by Des Moines' Cityview Magazine.
"The vintage rock four-piece provides one of the most entertaining local shows around, and it doesn't do it through pyrotechnics, flashy costumes (though McRoberts’ style has its own group of fans) or lighting gimmicks. Instead, the group engages its audience through the power of old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll played really well." (Cityview - April 16, 2014.)
