Review from CityLife Magazine in Las Vegas Nevada: 　　 　　Most releases that pass through CityLife offices are poorly produced amateur affairs with laughable packaging, giving only a subtle indication of the pain that lies ahead for the unfortunate reviewer. Thankfully, this effort by local musician Dave King who plays locally in many cover bands is an exercise in sublimely understated songwriting and features many top local players. After listening to the CD in it's entirety it immediately became my new favorite thing to listen to. 　　 　　Opening track "the Monster (Go Your Own Way)" sets the general flavor this eight-song, independently released disc. It's a gently swooning affair with a laid back beat, swirling keyboards, atmospheric steel guitar and a scorching slow-burn guitar solo. King handles piano, keys, guitar, percussion and electronic treatments throughout the disc, leaving vocal duties to Randy Williams and Denise Holland. What makes this King's affair (as opposed to him being merely a session player on his own disc) is that he wrote all of the material as well as writing the instrument parts, vocal harmonies and even the drum parts. 　　"Crazy What I'm Feelin'" and "Patience and Time" are saccharine ballads, but the sharp Beatlesque harmonies keep them from being cloying. "Free Ride Louie" offers respite from the ballad storm with a smoky jazz vibe with a dash of smart funk making for a well-executed pop song. The harmonies are again rich and clever. The intelligent "Your Dreams" takes a cue from the math-pop of Steely Dan, with clever key changes shifting like the sands, keeping the listener alert. All in all Dave King's self-titled disc is a solid collection of catchy pop tunes that exhibits strong songwriting skills and stellar musicianship from both King and his supporting cast.
