His talent for rap was soon discovered by an infamous street producer in the world-famous "west coast rap headquarters" of Inglewood, CA. DP quickly became "the white rapper", cutting his chops in a garage in Inglewood with a rap group and on the streets of L.A. and the world-famous Sunset Strip. He was mentored by Professor Funk, a well-known beatmaker and producer/engineer and artist, who had been "at the game for 15 years". DP was convinced he had met "his Dr. Dre", as Eminem had just gotten hot with his music. After having some close calls with record execs, but never landing that sought after deal, DP set out with Professor Funk to form Wesside Cali Entertainment, a joint venture of his finance and marketing skills and rap talent, combined with his producing partner's musician skills and music industry knowledge. But struggle and deception in the rap game ensued, including DP being falsely accused and sent to LA County jail for accepting a bad check from a client.
