简介: The following are excerpts of an interview conducted with Composer and Performer of “Feel The Heat Rays” Darren Moore.
The intention was to write an anthem that describes who the Rays are, where they are from (Tampa Bay) and most importantly who their fans are. As a fan of sporting events, I needed to come up with something that would invoke a call-response from the crowd and at the same time be the Rays battle call, so-to-speak. At the Rays home games, one of the first things I noticed was that many of the fans brought in cowbells, with a Ray’s logo on them. That was a no-brainer, to ensure plenty of cowbell in the chant. With the chant, the cowbell and hand claps it becomes an interactive song, especially after the excitement of a Ray’s homerun. Initially I thought the boundary was pushed a bit, with the driving force of the song, however both I and The Club believed this would have the most impact in a live setting. Plus we all love songs with energy, it’s contagious!
The lyrics of the song were inspired by the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Club when we first met, to discuss a team anthem. I wanted to know what the new spark represented on their Rays logo. Generally, I got the impression that it represented several things; Florida sunshine, a new spark of life into the team with a new owner, management team and style and an uncontrollable burst of energy, by the way the spark it not really symmetrical. OK, so now all of these ingredients were stimulating my imagination as I was sitting in the board room and out popped Feel The Heat. It works in conjunction with a simple chant and works with Feel The Heat Rays, as feel the heat energy coming from the Rays baseball team and the rays of Florida sunshine. It tied the team into Tampa Bay and implies both power and energy. See what the Rays have done this season? Seriously, I’m honored to have a small role in the representation of The Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Club. I’ve enjoyed working with them throughout the entire process.
