简介: A CHANGE HAS COME!!! Witness the rebirth of Hip-Hop as it re-manifests itself in the form of the lyrical impresario Dee-1, New Orleans next hidden gem destined to take over the game.
Penning soon to be thought provoking classics like Young Obama, One Man Army, & I Hate Money, Dee is one of a small number of Hip-Hop artists that specialize in making music that has a positive and uplifting message while still appealing to the masses. Growing up in New Orleans, home of the likes of Lil Wayne, Soulja Slim, B.G. and The Birdman, Dee-1 admits to being exposed to the same circumstances as the artists that put New Orleans on the map but is determined to represent "The Big Easy" with a different viewpoint by using inspirational and insightful rhymes in his music.
To be honest I did go that route at first, acknowledges Dee-1. I started rapping about four years ago when I was in college and when I first picked up the pen I really didnt have any direction. It was so easy to rhyme gun with fun with Dee-1, or crack and get jacked and smacked and all that. Then I thought about it, when people really started liking my music, I was like this is not who I want the world to see me as. If Im going to really do this, let me go ahead and try to be me. Thats my lifestyle, Im a man and I mess up everyday and I saw music as a chance to tell my story and be a voice for people who can relate to my struggle.
Strengthening his movement with his independent releases Still We Rise and his current street burner I Am Who I Am, Dee-1 has become a nationally recognized talent with his N'awlins accent, educated rhymes, clever metaphors, and catchy hooks mixed with his playboy swag, reaching beyond the streets of Baton Rouge and N.O.
Dee-1 was featured on the Pepsi Mic Smash video for New Orleans, alongside Master P, Lil Romeo, Silkk The Shocker, and Foxx (of Trill Entertainment). The video can be viewed on YouTube under "New Orleans Mic Pass." Freedom Land, performed by Dee-1 and a host of up and coming New Orleans MCs including Lil Wayne protégé Mack Maine was also featured prevalently on Allhiphop.com and YouTube.
A Louisiana State University graduate, Dee-1s philosophy is Hustle While You Work as he teaches middle school in Baton Rouge by day. The charismatic MC also has performed and collaborated with Dr. Rani G. Whitfield M.D., a.k.a. Tha Hip-Hop Doc and frequently mentors kids alongside the board certified physician on the lecture circuit.
I want to stress that I dont push my music on people and try to sell it saying I do positive music and this is why you should support it, asserts Dee-1. I push my music on people saying Im an MC. Lyrically Im nice and I really do this and thats why people from the hood all the way to the classroom to medical school will feel it first and foremost because its real. Anybody can close their eyes and visualize what Im talking about because my music deals with life. I talk about the good and the bad because people forget we have fun in the hood too. I can perform in any environment or setting. I feel thats more of a testimony than just having positive lyrics.
Dee-1 represents the untapped talent that New Orleans has to offer as hes created a loyal fan base traveling up and down the Mason Dixon Line. One Man Army, the motivational song strapped with Dee-1s Nawlins dialect uplifts a genre of Hip-Hop social consciousness. Garnering radio play throughout the South with regional smashes including Rebirth and Priceless on WEMX 94.1 and WJMI 99.7 FM Jamz, Dee-1 is making radio programmers take notice. The combination of raw talent, versatility and Nawlins flavor, has created a cult like following as well as a co-sign from New Orleans premier beat maker, Mannie Fresh. Crowned Seagrams Gin Showcase Champion and performing alongside The Clipse and Mya, Dee-1 is definitely a new voice of a movement to prove that Hip-Hop in its rarest forms is not dead. It is without question that Dee-1 is set to make significant contributions to the music arena.
New Orleans already knows. Now its time for the world to take notice of The Prince of the 504. Get Ready! Dee-1s TIME IS NOW!!!
