简介: Instrumental Rock Guitar with a groove you can move too. About the Artist: I've been playing guitar since I was 15. My first guitar was a black Cort Explorer from Sears that had a row of built-in effects buttons on the face of the guitar. I recorded all nine tracks of the Devil Boy album with a Washburn electric guitar on a Roland VS-880EX digital recorder. All rhythm guitars, lead guitars, and bass guitars are performed by myself. The drums were all programmed and performed by me except for the track "Sanctum" in which I had my good friend and superb drummer, Ryan Selzer, accompany me. I've always loved rock-n-roll and grew up with 80's metal and the hair bands of the time. It wasn't until I first heard "Mr. Scary" by Dokken guitarist George Lynch that I had an epiphany. When I heard the riffs and leads of a song completely void of lyrics, it was like the sky opened up and beam of sunlight shown on my face while an angel choir sang. From then on I knew what music I wanted to perform. This was then fed by guitar legend Joe Satriani, one of my all-time favorite inspirations. The Songs: Audio Illusion - I went with a groovy dance club theme with a simple riff over the top. Wah pedal accentuates the melodies. A strategically placed paper clip emulates the sitar before the lead section. Uvula Groove - The unorthodox name comes from my youngest son who was four at the time. Shortly after a throat surgery where his uvula was removed, he came to me in my studio where I was recording this song looking at his throat with a hand-held mirror and said, "Look, my uvula is growing back." Naming instrumental songs can be tricky sometimes and the word uvula just clicked. Overdrive - A song inspired by my love of race cars. This song is a fast paced, 11 bar blues riff. This is a song that you can listen to in your car and grab a fist full of gears with a heavy right foot. The break down section in the middle of the song is a mash of guitar effects and sounds simulating revving engines, screeching tires, and police sirens. Wicked W**d - Not a song purposely written about the narcotic but you can use your imagination as the song moves you. Riffs are inspired by Metallica. Very bluesy feel with a hint of southern rock. Sanctum - Inspired by Joe Satriani. Very soaring melody and powerful rhythm section and leads. The only song on this album in which I have a human drummer, Ryan Selzer. Crystal Caverns - The entire song is recorded with one guitar on one complete take. I utilized a timed delay echo which gives the impression of multiple guitars. Because of the overlap of the echoes over the melody, it wasn't possible to record sections or multiple tracks. It had to be nailed all in one shot...all 5:52 minutes of it. It was a tough take. All the eerie sound effects are from the guitar recorded on a separate track. I used a Roland Keyboard to record the chiming sounds. Testiphony - My first attempt at an instrumental song. Inspired by George Lynch and his "Mr. Scary" instrumental rock song. Moonlit Beach - A jam session with my drum machine that just clicked and recorded in one take. Devil Boy - The title track. The best for last and the last song I had recorded. I went with a horror movie monster type riff. The guitar was put through an 8-bit processor to give it that chainsaw distortion. Very cool jam and all metal. Enjoy the music!
