Less than six months after releasing his debut EP "The Refrain" Tim Williams introduces three more tunes in a poignant collection entitled "818". Moving out of the studio and into a room at the Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan, Williams delivers breathe and aching love with his acoustic guitar. Recorded live, 818 brings a more intimate side of this young musician to light. The delivery of his lyrics is decidedly more thoughtful and concise as if he has accepted, to some extent, the ways of love and romance since his last musical outing. Moreover, by foregoing studio production for a more organic sound, we are physically closer to his music and the moment of performance. The beginning of "Nine" opens with a short exchange between Tim and Producer/performer Will Robertson checking in with each other before they begin the song. This tune then ends with the affirmation that the take "was a keeper". It's endearing to hear these moments on this album and they add to overall intimacy of the work.
Imagery works to William's advantage in songs like "Nine" where
ribcages protect hidden lakes and "Croquet" where the title sport
argues the case of who hurts most. In "Drunk and Undone" it's
bare-bones confessions like "only when drunk and undone can i get close to you" that bring the point home. It's amazing to think that so much
has happened since "The Refrain" and even more amazing that Tim has
been able to speak to these changes in such a short time and artful
manner.
Williams continues to write, record, and tour in his home of
Brooklyn, NY and surrounding areas.
