简介: The Michael Ray Cain Reckoning..midwestern, chicago/milwaukee area band members (except the one from L.A) who up until now have spent a good deal of time playing in the shadows - the kind that only dimly-lit, urine-scented dive bars can provide.but hell, some remarkably memorable moments that will never happen again.and isn't that what makes it all worthwhile?..well, isn't it?..a previous incarnation of the band dissolved as this cd was being recorded due to many factors which included some jailtime, so i kinda had to finish it myself, ya know? this new line-up, though visited by demons nightly (who are pretty cool to hang w/, but ya have to practice, right?), has stimulated me, to say the least, and if they stick around long enough to do a 2nd cd i guess i'll have to tell ya more about 'em..but for now, just let me say - we've all had some pretty strange journeys, and the fact that those journeys have led us all here to this one place w/ all this smoke in the air makes it feel like it's the only way it coulda happened..or maybe it's just all the smoke in the air..we're gonna ride it for a while and see......michael ray cain IDOLATOR POP CRITICS' POLL 2007 - >>Chuck Eddy was Music Editor at The Village Voice for 7 years....he recently included "The Michael Ray Cain Reckoning / Aztec GTO and other Boss Sounds" on his ballot list for Top 10 EP's of 2007.... Bruce Brodeen, Not Lame Recordings: "A truly eclectic, exciting and cool release..rooted in a lifetime of experiences on the peripheries of rock ‘n roll.".. "Get Out" Entertainment Section, Kenosha News, Dan Pavelich - reviewer: "...spooky...haunting...one hell of a scary road-trip." (see full review below) "Kulczyk's Korner", Maximum Ink Music Magazine - David Kulczyk, reviewer: "Out of the festering land between Chicago and Milwaukee materializes The Michael Ray Cain Reckoning and the amazingly brilliant release "Aztec GTO and other Boss Sounds". Michael Ray Cain is a man who knows his obscure rock history and every second of "Aztec GTO..." demonstrates that. From "The Only Ones" and "The Saints" to "The Gun Club" and "Firewater", Cain takes every good song he's ever heard and interprets it into his own sound." Jeffrey Jones - Music Director, WOJB-FM 88.9: "..resonates deeply...like a call-out to the primal Archetypes to show themselves, and dance and party their asses off." Illinois Entertainer - Mike O'Cull, reviewer: Singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Michael Ray Cain and his self-named Reckoning give us their latest release, Aztec GTO And Other Boss Sounds, and while Cain isn’t the most technically brilliant singer, there is a certain charm here. He is most effective on the title track, which has a cool Wall Of Voodoo-meets-Timbuk 3 vibe that is instantly attractive. Cain is interesting and unique in a rough-hewn way... Scene Newspaper - Arts & Entertainment, Blaine Schultz - reviewer: ▶The Michael Ray Cain Reckoning - Aztec GTO (Boss Sounds): The eight-song CD arrived by way of John Sieger, who thought Mr. Cain may just be a kindred spirit. As usual Mr. Sieger was right on. The Michael Ray Cain Reckoning is Cain’s project, and though it was recorded in Zion, Illinois’ Short Order Recorders – home of The Shoes – this sure ain’t power pop. A quick, if obscure, reference would be the Southwestern grit of such legendary groups as Green on Red, the Dream Syndicate and most likely Russ Tolman/True West. Tunes that conjure late night drives across the desert and conversations with a bottle of tequila. Gritty and to the point. Cain’s writing is not for the faint-hearted, but worth the investment.
