ANNOUNCING - CD RELEASE: 　　SUNDAY RIVER - A Pete Sutherland Waltz Collection (Epact 117) 　　Release date: 4/29/12 　　 　　 EPACT MUSIC of Monkton VT, a home-grown label specializing in traditional and roots-flavored music of the Northeast, announces the release of "SUNDAY RIVER - A Pete Sutherland Waltz Collection" (Epact 117). The production features some of the waltz-time music from the restless and eclectic mind of award-winning Vermont composer/traditional musician PETE SUTHERLAND. Assembled in the spring of 2012 as a benefit for the Champlain Valley Festival, the CD gathers together under one roof a number of 'covers' of Pete's music recorded by artists from New England and beyond, as well as four debut selections. Fiddles, accordions, mandolins, flutes, pipes and pianos take the lead in turn, which along with varying tempos and moods both sprightly and wistful, create an ever-shifting soundtrack for dancing or contemplative listening. 　　 Featured tracks include Pete's present and past bands the CLAYFOOT STRUTTERS on the flowing "Ocoee"and METAMORA with the haunting "Inside Passage", and mandolin stars WILL PATTON and his quartet ( on the Parisian-cafe-sounding "Upper Valley") and DAVID SURETTE (on the jazzy "Beyond the Shadow"). Naturally fiddlers have plenty of air-time; DONNA HEBERT ably represents the dozens of folks who have recorded the well-known title track, LISA ORNSTEIN subtly and beautifully varies "Moravia" and the Horseflies' JUDY HYMAN brings an austere glow to the recent composition "The Willow Stick". Solo pianist JACQUELINE SCHWAB of Boston turns in a reflective performance of "Third Lake" and Seattle accordionist LAURIE ANDRES' vintage recording of "Sadie's Waltz - written for a cat - turns up in all its' playful glory.
