简介: In Rompiendo La Rutina, Jose Caridad "Perico" Hernandez takes the listener through a splendid panoply of Cuban-origin styles using his great talent as composer of lyrics and melodies, his vocals, and his legendary prowess as a tumbador. This is Perico's second independent CD, the first one titled "Cuento en Clave." The lead song from Cuento en Clave, "La Quimbumba" was performed by Perico in the recent Jon Favreau film "chef." Rompiendo La Rutina also features the dexterity of Ignacio "Nachito" Herrera as pianist and arranger. As Raul Fermamdez wrote, "Perico's tunes, while grounded in solid Cuban traditions, break with older schemes by linking current orchestral styles with the sounds of past decades. Perico puts new twists into genres like son, rumba, bolero, guaguanco, and pregon with rhythm variations, quick changes in tempo, multiple coros in the manner of contemporary Cuban timba groups, sudden switches from standard dance percussion to sacred bata drums, and structuring tunes with more segments than usual. Perico has said "music is my life, the clave and conga are my soul, and being a sonero of Cuban son comes from my heart."
