简介: Alicia's music is on the cutting edge of the cross-cultural Latin American explosion that is occurring in pop music today. She has charmed audiences in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. In 2000 she was nominated by the Washington Area Music Association for a Wammie Award as Latino Vocalist of the Year. Alicia has been a performing musician since she was a child. She was first inspired to play the guitar and sing by her Puerto Rican grandfather who taught her typical music from the Caribbean island during the summers she spent there as a child. As she grew, she began to write her own music, study voice and classical guitar, and during high school and college, she started to play at colleges, coffeehouses, bars and clubs. Her songs are a musical journey through moments of American life - train tracks in Richmond, cornfields, carousels, smoky bars - and everyday life - romance, heartbreak and family relationships. Alicia performed as a solo singer/songwriter until she began working with guitarist and producer Jay Weaver. Their collaboration has created a musical style that is a fusion of pop, rock, country, folk, jazz, and Latin music. While her style is seemingly eclectic, there are common threads that weave her music together to create a singular sound. Her lyrics, melody rich songwriting, and strong vocal presence, as well as the exciting arrangements and instrumentation of her band, give her music the backbone that allows her to move from one style to the next while remaining uniquely Alicia. Born from her collaboration with Jay Weaver, Alicia's second CD Highways features her compositions with the broad sound of her band. Musicians Subha Das (drums), Steve Palko (bass), Jay Weaver (guitar), & Al Snyder (keyboards) bring together the collective musical influences of American and Latin Jazz, as well as pop, rock, country, and blues to the recording. Alicia and her band blend soulful singing and songwriting, skilled musicianship, and beautiful musical arrangements into a performance that inspires and wows listeners. Highways follows the 1999 release of her debut album Here With You, a reflective solo effort so characteristic of the singer/songwriter troubadour style that has made Alicia so popular. Alicia is currently promoting her new CD and scheduling a tour with her band for the spring of 2002.
