Credits
Jimi U, singer and entertainer who hails from Pittsburg (USA) and has traveled the world, settled in Vienna in the 70’s. Within a short period of time he strongly positioned himself in the local music scene. Fritz Pauer made the introduction and Albert Mair, after his avant-garde period with Hans Koller, became acquainted with Jimi U. The two worked together spontaneously, mostly as a quartet with Jimmy Woode (bass) and Erich Bachträgl (drums).
For the successful outcome of this cd we would like to thank Alois Poslusny, Helmut Rizy and Hilde Göhr for the photographs, Roland Baumann for recording and mixing, Heinz Jäger for the graphic design, Carole Alston for the text translation and Christoph Huber for his hospitality.
During a concert the young saxophonist Martin Fuss, one of the musicians most highly in demand on the scene today, joined in.
The rhythm section at that time was Johannes Strasser on bass and the Fatty George drummer Karl Prosenik. The “Jimi U-Albert Mair Quintet" in short J•A•Q• was born. Hans Strasser left the band after a few weeks and was replaced by Heinz Jäger, well-know from the ORF Big Band. The sensitive musician Klaus Göhr has been the drummer in the Quintet since the mid 90’s.
Last but not least we owe a special thanks to our many fans who provided the atmosphere of warmth on this recording.
J•A•Q• has been in existence over 25 years, nearly ten of which (1999-2008) the band played as a sextet (with vocalist Carole Alston) under the Band name J•A•Q• plus. To date, the band plays concerts, events and Jazz performances throughout Europe
