Wild North

简介: After spending my first summer in Dawson City, famed gold rush town in the remote north of Canada's Yukon Territory, my imagination was suddenly filled with old-timey melodies and gnarled, toothless northern characters. I went back south and lived life as usual, but always felt a pull to go back that I could not ignore.
So several years later I went back, and after spending a year serenading the locals, through both the dark cold winter, and bright hot summer, I put together this album of songs, ranging from the lazy, lounging 'Lovebird Tavern' to the workaholic, angsty 'Mid-Season Blues'. Winter heartbreak is featured in the cabaret-blues of 'Lonely' and female independence is featured in 'I Like It This Way' and 'Oh, Move Aside'. I have also included some cover songs, from the sets I would play in the local watering holes, to really capture a snapshot of the bittersweet Dawson experience, paying tribute to Ray Charles, George Jones and Tom Waits.
The album was recorded in a frenzy upon my leaving town, in the middle of a cross-Canada tour, between shows in Prince George and Vancouver. It was produced by Nathan Tinkham at his studio on Gabriola Island, who spent years on the road as guitarist for Ian Tyson and Great Western Orchestra. His dobro, pedal steel and guitar really give this album its flavour, and help the stories jump to life.
Enjoy!
