Looking Back Over the Baroque

简介: I'm convinced that the three frogs on the cover peeked through the window of Corelli's study, jotted melodies on the scores of Bach, jumped around Purcell's desk... these same three frogs. They know that what we hear in this recording - and still more so in the impeccable live performances of the group - is true, that the distances between crumhorn and saxophone, between viol and guitar are non-existent. We know the only way for the sounds of the past to come alive again is for them to become the sounds of the present, and in this recording it's the natural sound of Looking Back that brings them together and brings them to life. It seems his illustrious compatriot Friedrich Nietzsche must once have whispered in Andreas' ear, so softly he hardly heard it, "simplicity and naturalness are supreme and ultimate end of culture."
