简介: "Russil Paul takes us on a tripped-out psychedelic mantric magic carpet ride. Be sure to enjoy the flight - we certainly did!” Deva Premal & Miten
Russill Paul, a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist receives the inspiration for his music from his spiritual practice as a Tantric yogi. He began his musical journey in India at the age of four with a wide range of musical influences, both East and West, and a professional musical career that began in his teens. His life changed at the age of 19, when a bike accident rendered him incapable of playing advanced four-finger chords on his guitar. Unsure of whether or not he could fulfill himself as a musician, his mind turned to spirituality that landed him in an ashram. Five years as a monk in a forest ashram on the banks of the holy river Cauvery in India introduced him to an ancient yoga practice known as Nada Yoga, literally "The Yoga of Sound". It is the powerful techniques of this discipline that enhances his music and vocal abilities.
In 1989, he married and came west bringing his pioneering combination of music and spiritual practice (The Yoga of Sound) to the western world. Here, in the US, for the past 25 years, he has lived and presented his work at universities and other leading-edge educational institutions, authored a ground-breaking book “The Yoga of Sound: Tapping the Hidden Power of Music and Chant”, among other works, and produced the highly acclaimed “Yoga of Music Chant” music series through The Relaxation Company, a New York record label.
Now, 12 years after his previous releases that are loved worldwide, he is releasing this mantra music album of joyful dance music that brings together his earliest influences of the great rock bands of the 70s (Dire Straits, Clapton, Santana) together with his powerful training in esoteric yoga and mantra practices. He tours around the world and leads chanting pilgrimages in India each year while making his home in Austin, Texas, the live music capital of the world!
"The music of Russill Paul is not only distinctive, it is extraordinary and brilliant. His fusion of the sounds of India with the energy and technology of contemporary Western music produces a sound unequalled since George Harrison collaborated with Ravi Shankar in the late 1960's."
Arlo Guthrie. Singer / songwriter of "Alice's Restaurant". Legendary folk musician of Woodstock fame.
