简介: Both for composing and recording the score the composer, Laszlo Des used two approaches. For some parts he worked out the music note by note with exact timing, but for certain scenes he wrote a sketch, a motif only and completed the score in the studio improvising with the band while watching the scene on video. This is extremely difficult, a very complex task and requires great concentration from each member as they had to focus not only on each other but onto the scene on the monitor as well. This can be done by highly qualified, virtuoso jazz musicians only. The recording was made in January 2003. There is a lot of music in the film, but the scores are mostly in short bursts to enhance the individual scenes. However, during takes they have got the whole motif or theme recorded as an independent piece with several variations and ended p keeping the best. „This is how Segments was born.” Des Laszlo was born in Budapest, Hungary. He has been regularly present on the Hungarian jazz scene ever since 1978 and an award winner soloist of jazz festivals from San Sebastiano to Karlovy Vary. He had done a lot to popularize jazz. His main instrument is the soprano saxophone of which subtle and 'subjective' pure tone, the ingenuity of his improvisational melodic lines reflecting his literate and sophisticated personality, made him one of the most personal and appealing of all jazz stylists praised by the audience and critics, too. Musicians: Laszló Des (Soprano Saxophone); Kornel Kovacs-Fekete (Trumpet); Ildiko Vekony (Cimbalom); Elemer Balazs (Drums); Andras Des (Percussion); Matyas Szandai (contrabass); Gabor Juhasz (guitar); Jozsef Balazs (piano); Pannon Chamber Orchestra – leader: Balazs Bujtor; conductor: Peter Erelyi
