简介: This album features "Music To My Ears" as heard on Dawson's Creek! Jenny Bruce's connection with people both on and off-stage is at the core of her songs' broad appeal and accessibility. A self-defined "people person," Bruce writes most of her songs on the crowded subways and streets of New York. Bruce delivers her well-crafted lyrics and melodies with a voice that often conjures up comparisons to Paula Cole, Sarah McLachlan and Annie Lennox. Bruce grew up in Manhattan where no family gathering was complete without a sing-along around the family prize possession, a Mason & Hamlin grand piano. She began singing and writing her own songs as soon as she could reach the keys. Bruce proudly credits "a long line of heavy drinkin', mediocre pianists" for the music in her veins (her grandfather earned a living during the depression playing piano in theaters to accompany silent movies). "Nearly every member of my family on both sides plays an instrument and sings. We ate music for breakfast, lunch and dinner." As a junior in college, Bruce travelled to Paris where she supported herself working as a singing waitress by night and busking in the metro by day. An A&R man from Polydor Records spotted her underground and invited her to the label's studio to demo a few songs. Dissatisfied with the material, Bruce was determined to focus on her own songwriting. Bruce eventually returned to New York (after nearly 4 years in France) and graduated from Barnard College. Soon after she began performing regularly in New York clubs while working on her first independent, self-titled CD. Early in 2000, Bruce was lamenting the lack of a New York music community with fellow singer/songwriter, Jo Davidson. Soon after they joined forces to create Urbanmuse, an artist group which includes 6 other accomplished NY artists. The group meets regularly to pool resources, offer support and every 4 months Urbanmuse presents a group show. Not only has Urbanmuse been a success on a personal and artistic level, but the group has also been receiving attention from the industry and press with positive articles in Billboard Magazine and NY Press. A '99 New York Lilith Fair Talent Search, finalist, Bruce has earned many songwriting awards including first prize in the Billboard Song Contest. Songs from her Sophmore album, "Soul On Fire" can be heard on dozens of TV shows. "Left Of July" Bruce's third album was released in 2006.
