This song is so special to me. I wrote Dead Roses about my mother, whom I lost to murder when I was six years old. This song ignited something inside of me every time I have performed it. I barely make it through the song without crying. The lyrics I crafted seemed as if they had a life of their own, I just let them words and melody flow from within me. I've never written about a subject so intimate or painful. Even though the point of the song is vividly clear to me, I did want listeners to interpret the song into whatever they wanted it to be for themselves, whether it be from the loss of an intimate relationship, a friendship, or a loss of a loved one.
