AFTERLIFE is a progressive/alternative rock band that formed in January 1986. 　　 　　AFTERLIFE is a trio comprised of Mike Hudson (Guitar, Keyboards and Vocals), Jonathan Dorsey (Bass, Mandolin and Vocals), and Warren Davis (Drums and Assorted Percussion). 　　 　　The band is originally from Carrollton, Georgia and spent their time in the late 80's and early 90's playing their own brand of original music all around the Southeast at various clubs, fraternities, private parties, benefit concerts and other functions. The music of AFTERLIFE was regularly featured on a number of college radio stations in several states, and a couple of commercial stations in Georgia and some surrounding states. 　　 　　In the early years, the band released three independent albums: "The Frozen Sun" (1988), "The Awakening" (1990), and "Curtain Call" (1991). The last two were recorded in Mike's own studio (Clockwork Recording). 　　 　　In the Summer of 1991, the band decided to take a break, but instead eventually wound up parting ways, and this was shortly before the release of the third album, "Curtain Call". Mike dismantled and sold off all the studio equipment shortly afterward and eventually dropped out of the music scene altogether. Warren did similarly, and also moved to a new state. Jonathan was the only one of the three who remained consistently musically active, forming a new band almost immediately and recording new tracks. That band eventually folded, but Jonathan has been in and out of a number of bands since, and has done recordings both as a solo artist and as a guest artist on other peoples albums. 　　 　　Over the years, the three members of AFTERLIFE talked about a possibility of reuniting for a yet to be determined purpose. For many years it was just talk, but around 2008, Mike decided to begin building a new studio. In 2011, the studio was fully operational, and Mike had a large back catalog of new songs written, so he invited Warren and Jonathan come up to the studio for a weekend to see what would happen. Jonathan brought in some new songs as well, and the three soon found that it was almost as though they'd only been apart for a few days rather than two decades. 　　 　　The songs on "Compass Rose" almost seemed to record themselves. 　　 　　As has always been the case with AFTERLIFE, this album is a very eclectic mix of sounds and styles. There are elements of progressive rock, alternative rock, power rock and some out right pop (the good kind of pop songs). AFTERLIFE draws a lot of influence from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. There's something for everyone on every AFTERLIFE album. 　　 　　There's so much music out there in this day and age, but so much of it sounds the same. If you're looking for something that doesn't sound like all the rest, then "Compass Rose" by AFTERLIFE is your best bet!
