简介: The Gentlemen of St John's are considered to be one of the freshest and most exciting male voiced consorts to have come out of Great Britain in the last thirty years. Formed by the choral scholars of the world renowned, Gramophone award winning Choir of St John's College, Cambridge, The Gents enjoy a remarkably busy schedule of concerts and recordings. Aged between 18 and 22, these young Cambridge Scholars have a unique and adaptable blended sound, which lends itself equally well to early ecclesiastical music as it does to partsongs, folksongs and more modern close harmony. Their ability seamlessly to cope with an enormous repertoire, combined with a confident yet sensitive style of performing allows The Gents to please an audience in Church, on the Theatre Stage or even in the Dining Hall.
They have had the honour to sing at dinner for HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, concert tours have taken the group all around the world including performances in the Sydney Opera House, Suntory Hall, Tokyo, and London's Wigmore Hall and Cadogan Hall and their travels in America, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Eire, Australia, South Africa, Germany, Belgium and Holland have further cemented their international reputation. This past August and September, The Gents toured Bangkok and Singapore sponsored by the Royal Overseas League, Mandarin Oriental and Exxon Mobil.
There are also current commercially available CDs, capturing the broadness of repertoire and wide-ranging shades of vocal colour that The Gents make their own. Like Take 6 and The King's Singers, The Gents perform and record many 'home-grown' arrangements. Many members of the group study music at Cambridge and enjoy writing arrangements of folksongs and close harmony versions of contemporary pop music as well as creating personal renditions of some of the classic Jazz standards.
Gently Does it features a selection of music ranging from folksongs to contemporary pop.
