简介: Different Dreams documents a musical encounter between three master improvisers and sonic dreamers: Ernst Reijseger on cello, David Mott on baritone saxophone, and Jesse Stewart on percussion.
Ernst Reijseger has redefined the parameters for contemporary cello performance. He has worked with a veritable who’s who of contemporary jazz, classical and improvised music including Derek Bailey, Han Bennink, Misha Mengelberg, and Yo-Yo Ma. He has written several film scores, including scores for a number of films by Werner Herzog who has said: “He is a magnificent cellist, and he can do anything, anything on his cello. He could play the civil war, the American Civil War on his cello."
David Mott’s playing also crosses the boundaries of style, form, and content, incorporating elements of jazz, creative improvised music, new music, and world influences. He is one of the pioneers of using circular breathing, multiphonics, and other extended techniques on the baritone saxophone in order to create a rich tapestry of polyphonic sound. He has worked with an astonishing array of musicians including Gil Evans, Stevie Wonder, Ray Anderson, Gerry Hemingway, Mark Dresser, Robert Dick, Wadada Leo Smith, and many others.
Jesse Stewart has similarly performed and/or recorded with many musical luminaries including Pauline Oliveros, Hamid Drake, and William Parker. In 2012, he was honoured with the “Instrumental Album of the Year” JUNO award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) for his work with the genre-defying trio Stretch Orchestra.
Together, Reijseger, Mott, and Stewart have created a trio recording of astonishing beauty and deep mystery.
