简介: Nancy is a multi-talented professional artist. She was a well-regarded commercial potter in Indiana, establishing a local cooperative and selling her work regionally and nationally. After a debilitating automobile accident and a subsequent move to Oregon, she returned to studying jazz vocals, following in her mother's footsteps and returning to a childhood passion. What makes Nancy stand out among the scores of current jazz vocalists is her heartfelt and intimate embrace of the songs. Eschewing the popular attempt to modernize material with complex arrangements, Nancy instead captures the classic beauty of these songs with a simple emphasis on melody with tastefully minimal accompaniment from her band. The result is a sincere and personal approach to the American Songbook. ----------------------- Notes about the band: Nancy met jazz pianist John Crider in 2003 and the two quickly established a professional rapport, which turned into musical collaboration and finally into marriage. John has been a jazz fixture in Eugene, OR, for many years, teaching jazz to students of all ages and being the preferred accompanist to many of the area's singers. Byron Case joins Nancy and John on the bass for this CD. Byron, one of the original members of the 60's pop band The Sunrays, has been one of the most sought-after bass players in the Eugene area for decades. His perfect sense of time and minimalist approach to accompaniment provide the firm foundation for every song. Mark Hurwitt, a Berklee College of Music graduate, provides tasteful and reserved percussion, and adds the spice to the mix. This CD represents a culmination of hundreds of hours of gig dates, rehearsals and jam sessions with the talented musicians in Eugene, and Portland, Oregon. Thanks to each one of them.
