简介: The versatile singer/songwriter Deborah Jeanne Weitzman, plays guitar, piano and sings, with a depth of spirit, experience and humor.
A native New Yorker, she has traveled the world extensively living in many places - both in the US, South America and Europe – developing a broad view and perspective. Like a sailor of the soul and an “old-fashioned” romantic, traveling, observing and experiencing, has defined her and given her music a unique texture; an exotic twist. In the ever growing Globalization and seemingly “boringization” in the world she strives to rekindle and awaken the unusual and yet universal specialness of what it means to be a person - regardless of country, religion, fame or fortune.
To hear Deborah sing is to have a visceral experience, a deep sensation in the gut, something earthy and yet magical. She has the power to move the listener, to both tears and laughter, making one ecstatic to feel so alive.*
Since her debut in 1990 at the Freight and Salvage concert hall in Berkeley California she has toured expensively through North America, Europe and more recently Argentina. She has made five recordings of her original songs and one for recording for children.
“She sings life through her songs; her passion is evident, irresistible, her range taking you from heartbreak to tango to laughter so intense your sides ache. Her music makes me know that I am not alone in the world.”
(Marilyn Raider-New York City)
A keen and serious dancer as well (Argentine Tango, Salsa, Greek, and Flamenco amongst others) she has woven the rhythmic and melodic variations from the world’s stock into her songs. Her music and lyrics, rich in feeling and poetry, have won songwriting awards for many years from the American Society of Composers and Artists (ASCAP).
“With Beneath Your Moon – her fifth recording, released under the TOCA label – the singer-songwriter Deborah has made a wonderful album with an international musical attitude. Often dark and melancholic yet articulating a love of life - with great musicians to support these extraordinarily beautiful songs - here is a musician at work, who with her ability, profound lyrics and expressiveness, should rightfully belong to the great singers of the century.”
