简介: For Many Birthdays is the second release of San Francisco based artist Tomo. His music is a beautiful fusion of playful electronic sequences and proficient playing of live instruments. Tomo's music has been compared to that of Matmos, Kraftwerk, and Raymond Scott. Us fine folks here at Daft alliance may not completely agree with those comparisons but have a hard time ourselves accurately describing Tomo's unique approach to electronic music. We do, however, agree with Marco Rivera, of Splendid magazine, when he said that "Tomo puts the intelligent back in IDM." For Many Birthdays also features additional musicians such as Nathan Burazer of Tussle, Nathan Berlinguette (AKA M.Kourie), Colter Jacobsen, and Window Window.
Tomo's S/T debut was released by Daft Alliance in the end of 2004. For an artist that hadn't toured or received much recognition prior to this release, Tomo's music received a great deal of kind words from critics unfamiliar with his music. He was also able to bring attention to his music while on tour with his side project hey willpower. hey willpower, featuring Will Schwartz of Imperial Teen, did several U.S. tours with acts such as Le Tigre, Gold Chains, and The Scissor Sisters.
In addition to playing in hey willpower Tomo has earned himself a favorable reputation around the Bay Area for playing in several other local acts. Those acts include Coconut (w/Colter Jacobsen), The Huts (w/members of Tussle), The Gay Barbarians (w/Anthony of Ezee Tiger), Window Window and The Boy Explodes.
Here are some quotes from reviews of Tomo's S/T cd:
Tomo will be playing several shows to support the release of For Many Birthdays and is planning tours for Spring and Summer.
"absolutely delightful" - Aquarius Records
"A truly revolving door of unexpected chord progressions and sudden mood swings" - Splendid Magazine
"Tomo seems to defy conventional rhythms and structures, creating a disjointed palette of melodies and beats" -Mish Mash
