简介: Alexander Murray's debut album is an eclectic mix of passionate, heartfelt and soulful songs. Each track is written and performed from and with the heart, using a unique blend of powerful and persuasive lyrics. This Scottish based songwriter not only knows how to reach deep into the soul, but delivers each song with such an awesome range of vocal ability that the listener is carried through the album effortlessly and is always left wanting more. Recorded at Stealth Studios in Glasgow, Scotland, Unaffected delivers itself to the listener in the form of an almost lost art: basic, direct and done quickly, warts and all. Thankfully all that is missing from this album is the unnecessary over-production that can be guilty of tarnishing otherwise great songs beyond all recognition. What is left are beautiful, carefully crafted gems from an urban poet who feels every word he sings and passes that feeling on to his audience. Unaffected has received rave reviews both in Alexander Murray’s homeland and beyond. His live performances only enhance his reputation for expressing emotion and he is fast becoming a popular figure on the acoustic circuit. 'Unaffected' is most definitely an album that real music lovers everywhere would be crazy to leave out of their collection. REVIEWS: Unaffected CITY STREETS, the opening track on Alexander Murray's debut album, is an absolute belter. Given that it's just an acoustic guitar and his voice, you'll be knocked out by its strength and depth. Singer/songwriters live and die by their lyrics and Alexander is bang on the money with City Streets. Choice lyrics include "used to be a friend of mine/but now I'm not so well connected." Deft and clever, you wonder if he can repeat the level attained by the first song. But he does. ‘Less Ordinary’ is a gorgeous love song, ‘Everything Stays The Same’ drips with yearning, ‘Never Gonna Fly’ picks at shattered dreams like Nick Drake and ‘I Don't Want To Talk About It’ has the epicness of The Verve. This is one singer/songwriter to watch in 2008. Rick Fulton – Daily Record (Scotland’s leading National newspaper) 4th Jan 2008 Even though "Unaffected", is performed by just Alexander Murray and a guitar, it's a big album. It's filled by his brooding presence, a testosterone laden riposte to the delicate oestrogen folk, singer/songwriters that seem to dominate the scene at the moment. That's not to say this is bloke folk, football, beer and motors, far from it. In terms of the lyric and poetry, the performance and the soul, it's all there in abundance. Murray has a distinctive and strong voice, one that should stand him in good stead, both live and recorded. "Unaffected" is a simple and powerful album. FATEA Magazine 4th March 2008 Be My Soul “Boy, this guy wasn't joking when he said he was a minimalist! This song is really simplistic...No fancy stuff...No flashing lights or fireworks... Just one man on his guitar playing a great tune... The vocal is really great...The guitar might take second chair to the vocal, but its 'barely there' feel is actually perfect for this particular tune... I am well pleased with this one...Sweet, but not sugary... You might even go for seconds! Reminds me of: Damien Rice, Cat Stevens too (but couldn't tell you why) Score:8/10 In a sentence: Go Minimalism! Living Athiest – Independent Review Magazine 27th Sept 2007 City Streets & Less Ordinary The panel found listening to the songs both inspiring and invigorating. They were all extremely impressed by the range and depth of the songs and in particular by how much heart and soul had gone into their creation. One wrote: "..I actually picked out two songs on first listening – ‘City Streets’ was the other which grabbed my attention and given the choice, I would have put both through. I went for this one though (‘Less Ordinary’) for its sureness and economy of structure and expression which encapsulated a whole story and a for a joyous contentment found in a familiar story and neatly summed up in the title and pay-off lines.." BURNSONG Songwriting Festival Review 20th Sept 2007 Unaffected I found his music on myspace and began to write while listening to him sing the poetry he breathes. Eventually every honest person discovers the place where they can feel through all the memories and relationships that keep them from sleeping….eventually they find the music that allows them that freedom to heal without pretending…Alexander Murray's "Unaffected" is a good start.
