简介: True Songs is the latest installment of Walter Egan songwriter/singer/player/producer. It was recorded with the amazing drummer Ron Krasinski, and Walter did the rest. Having achieved Pop Culture cult status as an answer in the New York Times crossword puzzle (as well as in People magazine’s and TV Guide’s), Walter Egan is still thrilling live crowds and still vitally rockin’ and writing great new songs from his home outside Nashville, Tennessee. Best loved for his million-selling chart-topper “Magnet and Steel”, Egan is more than a one hit wonder. His follow-up to that hit, “Hot Summer Nights” (also made a hit world-wide by the group Night), was recently used as the inspiration for Eminem’s comeback smash We Made You. Walter’s composition “Hearts On Fire” was recorded by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris on the classic album “Grievous Angel”. With numerous covers of his songs around the world, Walter has up to now released ten solo CDs as well as three with the Brooklyn Cowboys and six with the Malibooz. A new British package has just been released with his first four Columbia LPs called “The Collection”. “Magnet and Steel” is featured in commercials and in major motion pictures (Deuce Bigelow, Boogie Nights, Overnight Delivery, The Night We Never Met). More than just a writer and singer, Egan has played on many sessions and has worked with such luminaries as Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Fleetwood Mac, Don Henley, Jackson Browne, Dean Torrence, Linda Ronstadt, Chris Darrow, Wanda Jackson, Randy and the Rainbows, Burrito Deluxe (also the Burritos) and even played bass for the classic group Spirit. These days he plays with his powerful band from his base in Nashville, and with the surf pop band the Malibooz. Most recently his tenth solo album was released on the Classic Music Vault label, called “Myth America”. His exhibit of paintings, “The Martyrs of Rock” was shown in Washington DC and will opened at the Mister Musichead gallery in Los Angeles in January 2015. In a world of diminishing rockers Walter Egan abides and continues to create music that is meaningful and moving. 13 New original songs from the million-selling singer/songwriter/producer/musician/painter and wordsmith. Crazy Reign: “this song started out being about a torrential downpour and seems to have ended being about our national situation” Midnight Waking: “one of my bugaboos is suddenly coming awake in the wee hours and knowing that you’re not going back to sleep right away… on the edge of existential angst” Franz Klammer: “1976 Winter Olympics, Franz electrified us with his downhill on the edge of disaster. Now he’s become a metaphor for trying hard (and a national hero in Austria)” Old Photographs: “If we listen hard enough, sometimes old pictures can speak to us” Denny Lopez: “ Last summer Denny moved on, he was the bass player in my first band and my mentor in many ways, we will miss you Ace!” Have a Heart: “This is the oldest song on the album, written in the late eighties” Solitariness: “ We are all all alone in our minds, ultimately” Love in a Time of War: “ Written late in 2002. Big train as a metaphor for the coming war and finality of your last night before shipping out. War without end, amen” People Remember: “ A song of fatherly advice” The Fruit of Fascination: “Obsession is an unruly companion” Longing: “I guess a theme of this album and this song would be perseverance…and it’s the journey as much as the destination that’s worthwhile” Gestures: “An action performed for show in the knowledge that it will have no effect” And How : “ and you know who you are ☺” And how I’m grateful to Ronnie Krasinski for his tireless efforts bringing the beat…and to my friends and fans for their support through all these years. W.E. 8/10/17 "True Songs represents works written over the past few years, reflecting themes of hope, isolation, passion and perseverance." better you’ll remain Until we play all our old songs again HAVE A HEART It was a dead heat, on a winter’s morn In a heartbeat the dream was gone Now I hear your voice, when I speak with mine Can I change your choice, can I change your mind Don’t they say forgiveness is divine Have a heart wasn’t I part of you Torn apart look at what a love can do Have a heart baby have a heart Baby I’m human too We were well met in the moonlight Like a matched set from the very first night But the time comes and the pages turn Our affair’s done, but my love still burns Don’t forget how I fell for you Chorus Don’t you know forever is a long long time When you’ve lost something that you just can’t find Searching for that once upon a time Now I hear your voice, when I speak with mine Can I change your choice, can I change your mind Don’t forget forgiveness is divine chorus The Elephant in the Room (Solitariness) It’s the elephant in the room It’s the one unspoken rule Never let on what’s inside I mean way down deep inside In the solitariness on mind Memories and dreams entwine It’s the sycophant in your soul Selling you a mine of gold But all that glistens is not such Don’t believe what you can’t touch In the solitariness of mind Memories and dreams unwind Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh 3x It’s the clock that you must face All the days you can’t replace All the wasted nights as well Secret secrets you can’t tell Chorus 2x PEOPLE REMEMBER People remember funny things anyway A casual word that you happen to say Some little gesture, a genuine smile Something that touches them can remain for a while People forget facts and figures and such Sometimes a misunderstanding makes things tough But in the end this you can depend upon People remember how you made them feel when you’re gone Just do the best that you can do Eternity is coming soon A good friend once told me when I was the new kid in town The folks that you meet going up you’ll see coming down Never forget first impressions can linger on People OF FASCINATION (egan) Delicious were the kisses that we shared there on the sidewalk Moonlight shining in your hair, no more time for smalltalk Then you left and went away back to separation Now you’re my favorite memory, a source of fascination Obsession’s taken hold of me I didn’t see it coming Now it’s got me wondering just what I’m becoming I think about her all the time But when I’m not I’m merely Thinkin’ ‘bout thinkin’ ‘bout Having her here near me Possession’s got my consciousness Something near demonic But here’s the thing I must confess You’ll find it so ironic Although I feel I’ve lost control I’ve lately not felt better The girl has got my heart and soul I’d give my all to get her I revel in this reverie This new infatuation Can dreams come true I guess we’ll see the fruit of fascination the fruit of fascination the fruit of fascination the fruit of fascination LONGING (and DRIVING) Sometimes I wonder why I carry on Despite the obstacles I come upon Am I just ignorant, blissfully so To keep believin’ when All signs say no Every day every day, every night Every night every night, every day Drivin’ not arrivin’ Always a traffic jam Drivin’ not arrivin’ Longing is all I am There’s something inside of me I can’t describe Whispering, urging me making me drive Got to keep pushing on never say die I may not make it but I’ve gotta try Pc C Bridge sleepless nights I lie Starry blanket of sky Wondering why not I I am a general without a war I can’t fight it any more GESTURES I was yours for the taking I dispelled all mystery Like a fool never faking, this despite your history Then as I got to know you, I thought I could detect Signs of interest comin’ from you, the smiles of your respect I was fooled as fooled can be Gestures of love, fruitless fascination Gestures and lies, just humiliation In the end I went down in flames, sunken by your torpedo Just a chump in your favorite game: ”looking for your libido” Gestures of love foolish fascination Gestures and lies abstract masturbation With your smiley eyes And your alibis Had me fooled as fooled could be Gestures and lies, make believe attention Gestures of love, just a
