简介: Sirkka Kelopuro began to play the accordion in Helsinki at the age of ten. She was always fond of classical music and wanted to study it, but after graduating from high school she was dissapointed to not be able to study at Sibelius Academy, the only music university in Finland. The accordion was not yet accepted there, since it was not a classical instrument.
Sirkka´s playing skills were already on a high level: she won the Finnish accordion championship in 1975 and placed second in a few international competitions.
Sirkka Kelopuro studied then German language for three years and after that she moved to Germany for four years in order to study at Trossingen Music University, where she had best possible education given by Hugo Noth and F. Gisinger, focusing mainly in classical and modern music.
Back in Finland she was accepted to record serious music for YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Company. On this album you can find some of that material. Kelopuro was a teacher at the Helsinki Conservatory for several years. She formed a duo in 2000 with Ilkka Teerijoki who was teaching the clarinet there. On this album are some of their live recordings as well.
