简介: "KAY B is an up and coming R&B artist, who is leaving a trail of excitement in the music industry by the minute!
This buzz has seen him perform with big acts like Jagged Edge, Bobby Valentino, and most recently. Ne-yo & Chris Brown at the choice FM junior jam, along side UK acts like Sway, Nathan, Lyracis, and Jayme among others.
His single 'Call Cupid' was Choice fm’s Slow Down Zone Record of the week and his other track 'Party In The Jungle' won the Choice FM Hustle & Flow £2000 competition”.
With the music video for his forthcoming single “Call Cupid” reaching No.1 on the MTV BASE CHART within 2 weeks after debuting on the chart at No.3, and remaining at No.1 for 3 consecutive weeks, Kay B is destined for great heights. The video is also being aired on HOMECHOICE (VMX music channel), CHANNEL U, AUMG TV and other UK music video channels. The forthcoming single “Call Cupid” has also received countless radio air play on Choice FM, Kiss FM, BBC 1xtra, Galaxy(Birmingham),Vibe FM, and various radio stations within the north east, north west and south east of England, including the midlands, east Anglia, Scotland and Wales.
For a self managed and unsigned artist who has already managed to bag a couple of nominations this year such as, Best Unsigned Artist at the BT & Channel 4 Digital Music Awards, Best Young Creative Star at the prestigious Ghana Professionals Association Awards and Best Urban Artist of Ghanaian Origin at the Ghana Music Awards UK alongside UK urban acts Sway, Dizzee Rascal and Lethal B, more and more people are beginning to ask who is Kay B?
With an array of R&B artists emerging from within the U.K, one would begin to wonder where all these R&B artists are springing up from. But with his street single “Call Cupid” capturing the streets and radio airwaves, and other infectious tracks like “You Know I Like That” and “Party In The Jungle” off his up & coming untitled album, KAY B has stepped up the competition. The time is now... “Let’s put a face to the unsigned hype!”
Born in the U.K, KAY B moved to Ghana with his parents when he was four. He found his love for music early in his teenage years spending most of his weekends with his older brother trying to write their own songs and performing on stage, during which time he drew a lot of inspiration from acts like R. Kelly, Bobby Brown, Usher, Brian McKnight, 112, Dru hill, Jagged Edge and many others. After growing up in the choir at secondary level of his school days, where he had some vocal training, KAY B eventually moved back and settled in the U.K having shuttled between Ghana, Europe and U.S.A.
No sooner had he been in university, than he decided to rekindle his love for music by recording his first written track “Love You More” in 2003, which received a lot of admiration and acclaim on various radio stations. Still searching for his big break KAY B formed a group “Pak of 3” with two old friends Mr. Max and Sante. Together they have performed at various venues including the Stratford Rex, Porchester Hall, Trent Park, and numerous African events. In the latter part of 2004 KAY B was encouraged by his older brother to write and record more R&B / Slow jam material, and out of that encouragement “Call Cupid” was written and recorded with North London based producer Steve Hong.
Still unsigned, KAY B proceeded to set up his own promotional company ROK ENTERTAINMENT LTD to mainly promote and manage himself. And with this company, he still continued the hard work of promoting his tracks seeking as many avenues for recognition and airplay. This however did not materialize as expected till the chips finally fell his way and luck eventually struck when he left a copy of “Call Cupid” for Choice FM’s Phoebe One, who finally “made things begin to happen.” She was so impressed with “Call Cupid” that she extended the opportunity to KAY B to open the Jagged Edge Concert in Cirque Hippodrome, within a week of hearing and playing his track on Choice FM’s UK Cuts show. The rest was all history. That performance was the beginning of many to come including the recent “FRESH” show at the “Equinox” for ChoiceFm, which included a performance from U.S artist “Bobby Valentino” and more recently the Choice FM Under 18’s Junior Jam with Ne-yo and Chris Brown at a fully packed to capacity Stratford Rex in London.
The best is yet to be revealed, as this singer/songwriter/dancer can’t wait to unveil what he has been harboring inside for so long. After only five weeks of airplay on choice FM, “Call Cupid” was voted Slow Down Zone Record of the week on Jenny Francis’s “Slow down zone” show. and is requested by many of her listeners on a weekly basis. The infectious “You Know I Like That” has now been added to the ChoiceFm UK CUTS Playlist.
His tracks have captured a cross over appeal, getting repeated airplay on various UK stations including Galaxy fm, baseline fm and even Ghanaian major radio stations. Since then he earned himself a nomination in 2005 for the Ghana Music Awards UK urban youth music category along side Dizzee Rascal, The Mitchell Bothers and 2005 Mobo award winner Sway, and in 2006 was short-listed as one of three nominees for the Ghana Professionals Association awards, Young Creative Star category
“The hard work has actually just begun” as KAY B states! For him, this is all a dream, which has been brought to life through a lot of hard work, due diligence, passion, patience, love and support and God’s Blessings. The excitement and acceptance surrounding his single “Call Cupid” is very welcoming and he is ever so thankful that hard work is being recognized and appreciated. For KAY B…..the floodgates just paved way to a rising ocean!
