Mrs Henry Grows a Pear is what it would sound like if the Rolling Stones and U2 got drunk together in some sawdust-floored country bar, found a bunch of Bob Dylan lyrics scrawled on a bar napkin, made big plans to kidnap Elvis Costello and form a supergroup together, but then got jumped by the Kinks in the alley, roughed up a bit, and finally driven home in a pickup truck by the Old 97s. More than just the sum of their influences, though, Mrs Henry makes music that is witty and fun, played with ferocity and conviction, featuring searing guitar leads, Keef-style rhythm, and the kind of tight-but-loose rhythm section that makes even white people think they can dance. If you miss the kind of music they used to play on the radio when you were growing up, but you aren't interested in another nostalgia act, growing out their beards and pretending to be old before their time, this band is for you!!
