简介: FOR CRYING OUT LOUD All songs written by Laurel Butler and performed by Cassandra Produced and mixed by Ryan Madson Mastered by Christopher Cox Album artwork by Amrit Khalsa Additional writing on "Lover" and "So Wild" by Amber Hurst-Martin About FOR CRYING OUT LOUD: For Crying Out Loud is CASSANDRA's new collection of songs, written by Laurel Butler and produced by Ryan Madson. They are dark and danceable and intimate and wild. We hope you like them. For Crying Out Loud is a record about mystical women. About the inscrutable mechanisms of desire that inhabit us, about how the world of symbols manifests in us and through us, about dancing with the forces of the unknown while moving restlessly through the day-to-day. About yearning. About witchcraft. They are stark, ominous, beautiful, rich, menacing, dark matters of the heart. The songs speak of the possibility of jouissance, a metaphysically transcendent state that can, perhaps, free us from oppressive linearities. They speak of rapture as a transgressive/liberating force, and the danger it might pose to the established order of things. The record shines a light on the forces that might push back against our longings, and the ways in which that interaction of forces can engender any number of states of desire, from the very tender to the ferocious. Each song illuminates or deals with one of those forces - domestication, displacement, persecution, trauma, grief - and investigates how our internal processes can metabolize those things, alchemize them into a sort of power.  It’s a record about a state of deeply dynamic and personal resistance, and about the role of transformation – even magic – in the process of subversion, and of getting free. “Where does all the yearning come from?” - Pina Bausch About CASSANDRA: Cassandra is a feminist art-rock power-ballad pop project based out of Los Angeles California. We have glitter in our eyes and fervor in our hearts. We sing truth to power, and rage against the violence of silence. Cassandra is committed to holding a space for organic creative participation, rather than taking up space with a fixed and immutable form. Thus, Cassandra is also a concept, a performance spectacle, an experimental theatre work, an incubator of collective practice, a feminist action, a cultural project, a space for creative participation, a vehicle for radical social justice ideas to be aestheticized in a fiercely feminine way, a gesture, an art event, and an educational activist project. "Cassandra’s is a conundrum of the veil. Where is the edge of the new? Where is the edge of belief? Is it possible to believe something truly unbelievable? How does that begin? Is there a crack of light under the door? How do you know to see it as light? Is there an edge of light all around the dark mass of your life up to this moment? Can you see the dark mass as a veil? Can you want it gone? Can you say flic flac it’s gone? Cassandra can." - from Float, by Anne Carson
